MariBank Singapore Review 2026: Pros, Cons, Rates and Features

MariBank is a Singapore digital bank licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and wholly owned by Sea Limited. Its retail banking model is built around the Mari Savings Account, debit and credit cards, fixed deposits, digital payments and Mari Invest products, without a physical branch or ATM network.

The main rate to separate clearly in 2026 is 0.88% p.a. as the Mari Savings Account base rate versus up to 3.08% p.a. when current promotional bonuses are combined. The 3.08% figure is not a permanent rate available to every account holder: the largest bonus is for new users and lasts only 30 days, while other bonuses have their own eligibility conditions.

MariBank differs from a traditional branch-led bank because most account servicing, payments, card controls and product access take place digitally. Customers comparing digital accounts with conventional savings products may also find the structure of bonus-rate savings accounts useful, since MariBank uses a base-plus-bonus model for its highest advertised rate.

Mari Savings Account Rates: 0.88% Base and Up to 3.08%

The Mari Savings Account pays a 0.88% p.a. base interest rate without requiring a minimum card spend or salary credit for the base rate itself. Current promotions can add several separate bonuses.

Rate ComponentRateMain RequirementTiming
Base interest0.88% p.a.Mari Savings Account balanceBase account rate; subject to future rate changes
New-user bonus+1.60% p.a.Qualifying new MariBank customerFirst 30 days
ShopeeVIP bonus+0.40% p.a.Qualifying ShopeeVIP relationship and promotion requirementsDuring the applicable promotion period
Salary credit bonus+0.20% p.a.Qualifying salary creditDuring the applicable promotion period while conditions are met

Rate distinction: 3.08% p.a. is obtained by combining the 0.88% base rate with the 1.60%, 0.40% and 0.20% promotional components. The +1.60% new-user component applies only for the first 30 days. The current savings bonus promotion is listed through 31 December 2026, subject to its individual terms.

What the Different MariBank Rates Mean in Practice

Base-Rate Customer

0.88% p.a.

This is the account’s base rate without relying on the promotional salary, ShopeeVIP or new-user bonuses.

Existing Customer With Salary + ShopeeVIP Bonuses

1.48% p.a.

0.88% base + 0.20% salary bonus + 0.40% ShopeeVIP bonus, assuming the customer qualifies for both promotions.

New Customer With All Three Bonuses

3.08% p.a.

The maximum combination includes the +1.60% new-user bonus, which lasts only for the first 30 days.

How the Salary Bonus Works

The salary bonus adds 0.20% p.a. when the account meets MariBank’s qualifying salary-credit conditions. To extend the salary bonus into the following month under the current promotion, MariBank states that at least one eligible salary credit transaction of S$500 or more must be received during the relevant calendar month.

This makes the salary component smaller than the temporary new-user bonus, but potentially more repeatable while the promotion remains active and its conditions continue to be met. The distinction between base interest and behavioural bonuses is also relevant when comparing salary-linked interest rules across Singapore savings accounts.

How MariBank Daily Interest Is Calculated

MariBank calculates Mari Savings Account interest daily using the account balance and applicable annual interest rate. Interest is credited on the following day, so customers can see small interest entries rather than waiting for a monthly crediting cycle.

Basic daily calculation: account balance × applicable annual rate ÷ number of days in the year.

The amount displayed must round to at least S$0.01. Because credited interest can become part of the subsequent balance, actual results can differ slightly from simple estimates.

Estimated Interest Over 30 Days

The examples below assume the same balance remains in the account for 30 days and use a simple balance × annual rate × 30 ÷ 365 calculation. They are illustrations rather than a prediction of the amount a particular account will receive.

Constant Balance0.88% Base1.48% Scenario3.08% Scenario
S$5,000About S$3.62About S$6.08About S$12.66

S$100,000About S$72.33About S$121.64About S$253.15

Do not annualise the 3.08% new-user combination as though it automatically applies for 12 months. The +1.60% new-user component lasts 30 days. After that period, the applicable rate depends on the base rate and any other bonuses for which the customer remains eligible.

MariBank Fees and Money Transfers

Mari Savings Account avoids several charges that can make small-balance accounts less practical. The current public fee schedule lists no fall-below fee and no local transfer fee.

ItemCurrent TreatmentWhat It Means
Account maintenance / fall-belowS$0 fall-below feeNo stated minimum-balance penalty for the Mari Savings Account
Local transferS$0FAST and PayNow transfers can be used without a MariBank local transfer charge
Transfer trace / cancellationWaived on the current public fee scheduleCheck the current schedule if a transfer investigation or cancellation is needed
Overseas transfer feeS$0 promotional transfer feeCurrent promotion runs through 31 December 2026; future pricing should be checked before transferring

MariBank supports local transfers through Singapore’s major instant-payment channels. Customers unfamiliar with mobile-number, NRIC/FIN and UEN proxies can review how PayNow setup in Singapore works before linking or transferring funds.

Overseas transfer promotion: MariBank currently lists an unlimited S$0 transfer-fee promotion through 31 December 2026. The final amount received can still depend on the quoted exchange rate and the details shown for the selected transfer corridor, so the in-app transfer quote should be reviewed before confirmation.

PayNow, NETS and SGQR Scan & Pay

MariBank’s Scan & Pay function supports PayNow, NETS and SGQR payments. MariBank states that the service can be used across more than 40,000 merchant acceptance points, giving the savings account a direct everyday-payment role rather than limiting it to storing funds.

September 2026 Scan & Pay promotion: eligible payments at participating NETS SGQR merchants can earn 1% cashback from 1 to 30 September 2026. The promotion requires a minimum S$3 eligible transaction, is capped at S$30 cashback per customer and applies to the first 100,000 eligible transactions under the promotion terms.

Mari Debit Card: Cashback and Overseas Spending

The Mari Debit Card draws spending directly from the linked Mari Savings Account. A virtual card is provided through the digital account flow, while an eligible customer can request a physical card. The current fee schedule lists no annual card fee and no replacement-card fee.

Debit Card FeatureCurrent Terms
Annual feeS$0
Eligible local SGD spending0.5% cashback with no minimum spend stated
Eligible foreign-currency overseas spending0.5% cashback on up to S$1,500 of eligible overseas spend per month under the current 2026 promotion
Foreign-currency transaction fee treatmentPrior 1% Mastercard charge and 2% MariBank fee are not charged on qualifying foreign-currency transactions from 1 January 2026 under the current terms

SGD-Processed Overseas Transactions Are Different

A foreign merchant charging the card in Singapore dollars is not treated the same way as a purchase processed in foreign currency. MariBank’s current debit-card fee schedule lists a 1% Mastercard currency conversion charge for SGD-denominated transactions processed overseas, including situations where dynamic currency conversion is used.

This distinction matters when comparing claims such as “no foreign-currency fee” with the actual currency selected at checkout. The broader mechanics are covered in BanksInSG’s explanation of foreign transaction fees.

Mari Credit Card: 1.5% Cashback and the Cost of Carrying a Balance

MariBank’s credit card currently pays 1.5% cashback on eligible local SGD spending without a minimum spend requirement. The card has no annual fee on the current fee schedule and includes a separate 2026 overseas-spending promotion.

Eligible Overseas Cashback

1.5%

Up to S$1,500 eligible overseas spend per month under the current 2026 promotion.

No Late Fee Does Not Mean Late Payment Is Cost-Free

MariBank currently lists no late-payment fee, but interest can still be charged when card balances are not paid according to the required terms. The public credit-card fee schedule lists 27.99% p.a. nominal interest on an outstanding balance when the statement amount is not paid in full by its due date and 30.99% p.a. late interest when the minimum payment due is not paid in full by the due date.

The cashback rate and borrowing rate should be assessed separately. A 1.5% cashback benefit does not offset a 27.99% or 30.99% annual interest rate if a balance is carried long enough for interest to apply.

Foreign-currency transactions also receive the revised 2026 fee treatment, but SGD-denominated transactions processed overseas can still attract the 1% Mastercard currency conversion charge described in MariBank’s current card terms.

Mari Fixed Deposit: S$100 Entry Point and App-Based Rates

Mari Fixed Deposit can be opened from S$100, making its entry amount lower than the minimum placement required by some fixed-deposit products. MariBank offers multiple tenors, but its current public rate page directs customers to the app for the rates and tenors available at the time of placement rather than publishing one permanent web rate.

Minimum Placement
S$100
Available Tenors
Multiple tenors; current choices are shown in the MariBank app
Early Withdrawal Fee
No fee stated on the current public fee schedule
Rate Verification
Check the app before placement because available rates can change

The stated maturity return should not be assumed if a deposit is broken before maturity. Customers comparing tenor length, liquidity and early withdrawal treatment can use the broader explanation of Singapore fixed deposits for context.

Why no fixed-deposit percentage is quoted here: MariBank’s public rate page currently tells customers to check available Fixed Deposit rates and tenors in the app. Quoting a past promotional rate as the current 2026 rate would therefore be misleading.

Cash Access Is MariBank’s Main Structural Limitation

MariBank has no physical bank branches and no MariBank ATMs. It also states that the Mari Debit Card cannot be used to withdraw cash from ATMs locally or overseas. This makes the account very different from a conventional current or savings account backed by a branch and cash-machine network.

Works Naturally for
  • PayNow and FAST transfers
  • QR payments
  • Debit and credit card spending
  • Customers who already operate mainly without cash
Less Convenient for
  • Regular cash deposits
  • ATM cash withdrawals
  • Customers who want branch counter service
  • Banking needs that depend on in-person assistance

Account opening and servicing are therefore built around the digital channel. Customers deciding between app-based and counter-based banking can compare the practical differences in online and branch account opening.

Mari Invest Is an Investment Platform, Not a Savings Deposit

Mari Invest sits inside the same digital banking ecosystem but should not be grouped with Mari Savings Account interest. Investment values can rise or fall, fund-management charges apply, and Mari Invest products are not insured deposits under the Singapore Deposit Insurance Scheme.

Mari Invest ProductMain ExposureStarting AmountFund Management Fee
SavePlusLiquidity-oriented investment fundFrom S$10.25% p.a.
IncomeGlobal fixed-income investmentFrom S$11.05% p.a. for the listed fund share class
GoldPhysical-gold-backed fundFrom S$10.50% p.a.
Singapore EquitySingapore equities and dividend-oriented exposureFrom S$11.25% p.a.

Mari Savings and Mari Invest answer different needs. Eligible Singapore-dollar deposits in Mari Savings can fall within SDIC deposit protection, while Mari Invest products carry investment risk and are not protected as insured deposits.

Who Can Open MariBank Products?

Eligibility differs by product. The Mari Savings Account has a lower minimum age than Mari Invest and the Mari Credit Card, so access to one MariBank service does not automatically mean eligibility for all of them.

ProductMinimum AgeResidency / Status Basics
Mari Savings Account / Mari Debit Card16Singapore citizens, permanent residents and eligible foreigners holding a valid pass, subject to account requirements
Mari Invest18Singapore-resident eligibility rules apply; additional investment-account restrictions can apply
Mari Credit Card21Singapore citizens, permanent residents and qualifying foreigners with a valid pass, subject to credit-card eligibility requirements

Mari Savings applications rely on Singpass and MyInfo for identity and personal information. Additional product-specific checks can apply, particularly for credit and investment services.

Is MariBank Safe? MAS Regulation and SDIC Coverage Explained

MariBank Singapore Private Limited is listed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a Local Bank. MariBank received a digital bank licence in 2020 and operates under Singapore’s banking regulatory system.

Regulatory Status

MariBank is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Eligible SGD Deposits

Singapore-dollar savings and fixed deposits that qualify under the Deposit Insurance Scheme are insured up to S$100,000 in aggregate per depositor per Scheme member.

What Deposit Insurance Does Not Cover

Investment products and foreign-currency deposits are among the products that are not protected as insured Singapore-dollar deposits.

Regulation and deposit insurance address different issues. MAS licensing concerns the bank’s regulated status, while SDIC protection applies only to eligible deposits and only within the Scheme’s coverage rules. Mari Invest market losses, for example, are not converted into insured deposit claims.

Where MariBank Fits Well and Where Another Bank May Still Be Needed

Digital-First Banking

MariBank suits customers who are comfortable managing savings, payments, cards and transfers through an app rather than visiting a branch.

Cashless Everyday Spending

PayNow, FAST, SGQR and card payments make the account more practical for customers whose normal spending rarely requires physical cash.

Rate-Bonus Users

The promotional savings structure is more useful to customers who actually qualify for the salary, ShopeeVIP or new-user components rather than judging the account solely by the 3.08% headline rate.

Cash and Branch Users

Customers who regularly deposit or withdraw cash, need ATM access or prefer face-to-face servicing may still need an account with a physical branch and ATM network.
